The Energy and Climate Change Committee takes evidence on home energy efficiency and demand reduction looking at a range of proposals for future energy efficiency schemes.

First session

  • Dr Nick Eyre, Director, UK Energy Research Centre
  • Dr Jan Rosenow, Senior Fellow, Centre on Innovation and Energy Demand, University of Sussex
  • Simon Roberts, Chief Executive, Centre for Sustainable Energy
  • Dave Sowden, Chief Executive, Sustainable Energy Association

The committee heard that energy efficiency programmes should be prioritised in the UK as offering better returns than many other infrastructure projects. Different schemes and incentives should be used in combination and the market encouraged to focus on capacity reduction. Fuel poverty, in particular, should be addressed via general taxation. The zero-carbon homes target should be reinstated.
